Top Tips When Writing Your Will

Before you write your Will you need to:

  • Sit down and work out who you would like to benefit, and by how much. You can have as many beneficiaries as you like.
  • Decide if you want to leave any of it in trust. This means you can set guidelines such as the age the person receives the money.
Or, for example, if you have children from a previous relationship, you can set out that your current partner receives the income from your estate during their life and the capital passes to your children on your partner’s death.

  • If you have children you should detail who will look after them in the event of your death. What would happen if you and your partner died at the same time? You can appoint legal guardians to look after them and separate financial guardians to look after the money side of things.
  • Get your Will written up by a local solicitor.. A simple Will should cost around £100 and it’s better than using a DIY kit.
  • Change and update your Will regularly. Every five years is recommended, or after an event such as the birth of a child.
Financial Concepts work very closely with other professional firms and are able to put you in contact with a partner from a local firm of solicitors for them to take care of all your requirements.
